1: Exploring Doha: old and new:
Doha is the capital of Qatar and the central (but not the only) city of the country in places like New York with its shining skyscrapers and in places like Venice with canals, bridges and colourful houses. No wonder: architects from all over the world took and continue to participate in constructing the city. They skillfully bring to life the bold ideas of Sheikha Moza – the most famous and most stylish woman in Qatar, the mother of the current Sheikh Tamim. And her pictures are exquisite: the skyscrapers in the business district of Doha amaze with their intricate design and unusual shape. After sunset, the Qatari City turns into a free light show that can be watched from the waterfront or just from the car windows. But Doha is not only about futuristic skyscrapers.
So, the old City has preserved the traditional Arabic flavour: narrow streets with endless shops and restaurants are saturated with the smell of cardamom and coffee. At the local market, you can buy oriental sweets and spices and jewellery, paintings, and, for example, a pet – a rabbit, budgerigar, or even a falcon.

2: The Promenade & the island “Pearl.”
In Doha, the Corniche promenade is located along the entire coast of the Gulf. It offers a gorgeous view of the city’s business centre. Quays, as a rule, “take” with space: plenty of water, fresh air, greenery and comfortable conditions for relaxation. Here is the Cornish one. Restaurants, cafes and a jogging track are surrounded by greenery.
And Pearl Island is an artificially created island shaped like a string of pearls. The island’s project – an elite area with all the necessary infrastructure – was approved in 2004 by Sheikh Abdullah bin Khalifa Al Thani. In 2012, more than 40 thousand people purchased housing on the island. Many of them are foreigners. And in 2015, the construction of the “Pearl” with an area of 4 km 2 was completed.

3: Cuisine:
The diet of the people of Qatar is rich in seafood. And there is very little meat in it. There are a lot of vegetables and fruits, legumes, rice. The Qataris are very fond of various spices. The day traditionally starts with light snacks. Breakfast is yoghurts, olives, cheese and coffee. At lunchtime – fish dishes with snacks. The locals are very fond of a dish called “Varak enab”, which is rice in grape leaves. The dessert “Mahalyabiya” is worthy of attention. For its preparation, starch is mixed with milk, after which it is seasoned with cinnamon and pistachios. Bread pudding is also famous among Qataris. It is made from puff pastry, baked in the oven with almonds, raisins and milk.
So, where to taste the national cuisine of Qatar? In hotel restaurants, in city establishments, on the embankment. Taste, but don’t forget about the reviews. But one can taste dishes according to ancient recipes in the Bedouin camp. But it should be borne in mind that Bedouin dishes have a specific taste since they traditionally combine meat with camel milk and dates.

4: Historical Forts:
Al-Zubara Fort is a monument of the culture and history of the 18th – 19th centuries. It is under the protection of UNESCO and has recently been restored. Excavations are still underway around it. On the site of the fort, there was a fortified coastal city whose merchant ships reached the Indian Ocean. And pearl mining was developed in the town. Fort Al Wajba is located near Doha. It was erected at the turn of the 18th – 19th centuries. This building is one of the oldest in the country. But it was one of the first to become available for visiting.
The fort’s observation towers offer an incredible view of the desert. In 1893, Al-Wajba was attacked by the Ottoman Empire, but the Qatari troops could repel the attack. In different periods, the fort was used as the residence of the Sheikh. Fort Al Kut is located in the heart of Doha. Its construction was completed in 1927 and was used to house the department responsible for law enforcement in the city. Later, a prison was made from the fort. Now the snow-white building of Al-Kuta is a museum and is open to tourists.

# 5: Stunning museums:
The Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim al-Thani Museum has a private collection of more than 15,000 exhibits. It took the Sheikh almost 50 years to collect it. An influential businessman and passionate collector, he opened his museum in 1998. The Sheikh’s finds cover an area of 530,000 m2. Thanks to them, you can trace the history of the country. Awe-inspiring are the vehicle displays and the country’s most extensive collection of weapons. The Mathaf Museum in Doha is dedicated to contemporary art. The building was designed by an architect from France and is unique in the region. The collection contains more than 6,000 exhibits, some of which date back to the mid-19th century. The Museum of Islamic Art is also located in Doha. Doha opened it in 2008. The area of the object is 45.000 m2. Halls with exhibits are located on three floors.
